FISCHBEKER HEIDBROOK

Living close to nature in the south of Hamburg

IBA Hamburg recently developed the Fischbeker Heidbrook district, which is very close to Fischbeker Reethen. Around 1,250 housing units have been built on the site of the former Röttiger barracks. Here, residents live in detached houses and apartment buildings as well as in semi-detached and terraced houses on an area covering around 54 hectares. Retirement apartments are available in the converted and modernised original buildings of the former barracks. A supermarket, chemist, bakery and other small commercial units offer daily essentials right on the doorstep.

Fischbeker Heidbrook is a prime example of how urban development can be designed in harmony with nature. The careful integration of the district into the leafy surroundings of Fischbeker Heide demonstrates the commitment of IBA Hamburg and other stakeholders to protecting the environment. The proximity to nature and the preserved tree stock create a unique quality of living and promote biodiversity in the surrounding area. The well thought-out open space planning creates additional footfall routes and contributes to the district’s climate resilience. The innovative rainwater management system, which collects and reuses rainwater wisely, and at the same time deals successfully with heavy rainfall events and periods of drought, ensures future-proof drainage in the Fischbeker Heidbrook district. This living close to nature is conducive to the health and well-being of all residents.
