MOORGÜRTEL NATURE RESERVE AND EU BIRD SANCTUARY

A unique biotope lies to the north of the Fischbeker Reethen district. A large number of rare plant species grow on the meadows and pastures covering an area of almost 740 hectares. The Moorgürtel nature reserve owes its status as an EU bird sanctuary to the corncrake, a bird that is endangered throughout the EU.

FISCHBEKER HEIDE

The approximately 770-hectare nature reserve in the south of the Fischbeker Reethen is always worth a visit! Along idyllic hiking trails, you can meet a herd of heather sheep and their shepherdess. In late summer, when a bright purple carpet of flowers spreads out, the heath shows its most beautiful side. A nature conservation information centre offers guided tours, workshops and much more about the heath.

HARBURG HILLS

Steep inclines, narrow valleys and heathland: The Harburg Hills are very close to Fischbeker Reethen. The area is particularly attractive for hiking and mountain biking. Incidentally, Hamburg’s highest natural elevation – the Hasselbrack – can also be found here.

NEU WULMSTORF

The municipality of Neu Wulmstorf in Lower Saxony borders Fischbeker Reethen to the west. It offers its approximately 22,800 residents and all visitors various shopping facilities and restaurants, a library, an outdoor-indoor swimming pool and a cinema.

ALTES LAND

White and pink blossoms in spring, juicy apples at harvest time, magnificent half-timbered houses, green dykes and the river Elbe – the Altes Land, an area of reclaimed marshland, is worth a visit at any time of the year. The enchanting landscape is ideal for long cycle rides with a stop off at one of the many farm shops.
